AlanDick has developed specialist expertise in the use
of Derrick erection methods, which allow erection of masts along side operational rail and road routes without closing the route to traffic. This expertise was used to erect a tower and rig antennas at the GSM-R the GSM-R Didcot Control Centre for Network Rail.
The scope of the project gave AlanDick the following responsibilities:
- Site survey to
determine exact requirements for each
site
- Agreement with
Network Rail on approved Method
Statement
- Supply of all rigging
cables, connectors and accessories
- Tower erection using
Derrick-build method
- Rigging of Antennas
and associated cables
- Test of installed
system before team leaves site
All of the work undertaken
was in accordance with AlanDick’s Contractor
Assurance Case, using our own specialist
site protection resource.

The project was delivered - on time and to
the required quality and safety standards –
in an operational rail environment.
This project illustrates AlanDick’s ability
to transfer the skills developed in the
commercial broadcasting and telecoms
business, to the more specialised rail
environment.
