AlanDick Installs In-Building Network at Malaysian Royal Palace

AlanDick installed a multi-carrier cellular transmission system at the Malaysian King's Palace at Putrajaya. The contract for the installation was highly prestigious, since the Istana Melawati - translation: the King's Palace - is a retreat for the Malaysian Royal Family, as well as a major tourist attraction for the country as a whole.

The Palace is also a key meeting venue for His Majesty Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin to discuss matters of State with rulers and high-ranking officials from around the world. Due to these issues, Malaysia's three main GSM carriers - Celcom, DiGi and Maxis - co-operated closely to ensure the best possible in-building coverage on their networks.

Indoor cellular coverage differs markedly from outdoor coverage, as conventional base station technology is usually replaced by a combination of micro base stations, leaky feeders and both passive and active retransmitter systems. Added to the fact that the propensity of an indoor mobile user to redial in the event that their call fails - for whatever reason - is much lower than outside, it was essential that the Palace coverage was as a comprehensive as possible in order that the operators achieve the best possible call revenues.




 

The fact that AlanDick does not sub-contract its cellular base station installation projects, and relies wholly on its extensive in-house expertise and technical abilities, meant that it was able to complete the contract in under a month, on budget - whilst maintaining professional relations at all times.

The end result of the project has been excellent coverage for mobile users on all three of the relevant networks, and a showcase for AlanDick’s technical expertise and prowess.
