AlanDick was awarded a joint contract with Salam Media Cast in Doha, Qatar to design, supply, install and commission a complete 5-channel high power FM transmission system for the Qatar Broadcasting Station in Al Kisah. The contract involved a complete turnkey FM transmission system including radio studio/transmitter equipment, spares, training and commissioning work. Under the agreement,
AlanDick delivered a 150m guyed
mast, a 12-tier, 48-panel FM antenna system,
and ten 10kW FM transmitters for 5 channels,
operating on active reserve configuration,
5-channel FM combiner, PIE Bay, a 12 stereo
channel microwave system, associated RF
components plus electrical and
air-conditioning equipment required for the
system.

The project brought wider coverage and better reception to the people of Qatar. The omnidirectional antenna offers roughly 90km of coverage, which encompasses the whole of Qatar. Although the station has put five channels through this new system initially, the system has the capacity to include a sixth channel in the future.
The nature of the installation site required
AlanDick's significant expertise
in radio design and engineering. The site
where the 150m mast was installed was
crowded with both medium and shortwave
antennas. AlanDick had to do a precise site
survey to find a location for the new guyed
mast. The engineering team had to retune
some of the existing medium wave
transmission systems that Qatar Broadcasting
already operated at the site subsequent to
the commissioning of the new FM transmission
system. |
